Where do we go when we die?

This is a question that seems like it has an easy answer…unless of course I am the one asking the question and then the question morphs into about twelve questions all pointing the the original question.

Where do we go when we die?

Depends on if you are “born again”. (For the sake of this discussion yes born again)

Where do we go when we die?

Heaven

But what about the part of scripture that talks about “The dead in Christ shall rise first?

….

So we die, go to heaven, and then when it’s time for Christ’s return He says okay everyone back to earth so you can be raised first?

…Well some people believe we die and our souls sleep till He returns.

Okay…but He told the thief on the cross TODAY you will be with me in paradise.

So is paradise different than heaven?

Is paradise where the Catholics come up with purgatory?

What about to being absent from the body is to be present with Christ?

…Well we think linear and Christ and the scriptures are written from a perspective that sees the end and the beginning at the same time.

Yeah but that doesn’t answer the questions fully.

Okay new question…what happens to non-christians when they die?

They go to hell.

Define hell

The lake of fire…eternal torment, separation from God, eternal punishment.

But scripture says that Christ came to give us eternal life. If we already will live forever either in heaven or hell we already have eternal life…it just depends on where you spend eternity. That’s one of the great “Evangelism Explosion” questions. “If you were to die tonight where would you spend eternity?”

So Christ came to give ETERNAL life…then maybe we don’t understand what happens to non believer?

…They go to hell…forever to be tormented and burned for all eternity.

So scripture tells us that it is appointed for once man to die and then judgement. At judgement we will be judged to see if we be sheep or lambs, saved by faith or not, sinners paid for by blood or just sinners unredeemed. If we are found to be sinners unredeemed we know the wages of sin is death…so if our payment has not been made we must pay the price for unrepentant sin right? Death…but we’re already dead at judgement. So…a second death? Scripture says anyone not found in the book of life…will be cast into the lake of fire. To pay the price for their sin…the wages of sin is death. Into the fire to…die as payment for sin. So where does eternal damnation, torment, and spending eternity in the lake of fire/hell/hades/shoal come from exactly?

Where was Christ the three days after His death?

…Some say in hell.

Hell as in lake of fire? That’s not logical. Scripture says He went and preached unto the spirits in prison. Kinda hard to preach in a lake of fire wouldn’t it be? To preach while in constant torment?

Long before this point I have pretty well lost the interest of anyone listening and been written off as playing the devil’s advocate. But there is no way I am the only one asking these questions at some point. Oh yeah…

What about those who NEVER EVER NO NOT EVER NEVER heard the name, concept, idea, inkling of a notion about a guy named Jesus/Yahshua/Yeshua/Christ who was perfect and lived and died for their sins…how do they come to the saving knowledge of Him? How do they accept this free gift they don’t even know exists?

…The rocks will tell them. Scripture says the rocks will cry out.

Talking rocks huh?

Scripture is supposed to have continuity. Is supposed to be understandable. It’s supposed to have the answers. So how are we missing them and why do we think its okay to make up our own answers base on half understandings?
